Recent published history includes repeated answers, which means eliminating a strong candidate solely because it appeared years ago can cost a solve.

A repeated word does not mean the entire list runs on a predictable cycle. Editorial selection, vocabulary changes, calendar choices, and the practical need for familiar five-letter words all affect what appears. Past frequency is descriptive: it tells you what happened. It is not a probability guarantee for a future day.

Repeated letters inside one answer are a separate issue. Words such as those with two vowels or doubled consonants can be solutions even when the board initially shows only one confirmed instance. A yellow or green letter does not prove there is only one copy. If the remaining pattern supports a duplicate, test it deliberately rather than rejecting it because a first guess used the letter once.
